ToCheck: Why did my system just turn off? 3 Comments
On my ToDo lsit for tomorrow: check why my computer suddently fell out while I was surfing. The last entry in syslog before the instant power off is a warning of cron, which couldn’t find sigfile. Can cron really let your system crash that abruptly?
Idea #15961: (Try to) partner with the Dutch government Comment
Maybe you’ve already heard about the Dutch plans to make open standards almost mandatory for the (semi-)governmental organizations.
Although the regulation was already effective as from the first of April 2008, recently there have been some developments. Now the plans have been approved by the European Commission. Furthermore, the use of open standards is now even [...]
Ubuntu Wanted progress-mindmap 1 Comment
When I’m working on something I like to have a clear overview of what I’ve done and what I still need to do. I’ve never really found a good way to do that in a visual way, but lately I read about a mindmapping tool for Linux called View Your Mind, which you can find [...]
Ubuntu Wanted now supports task editing! Comment
It took a while but now I’ve just uploaded revision 16 of Ubuntu Wanted adding editing support and a basic managing interface. The system could be considered useable now, but it still needs some more testing and I’d be really thankful if someone would have a look at the code to check the performance of [...]
Banshee 1.4 with DAAP music sharing 4 Comments
In my previous post about Banshee I forgot to show one feature of Banshee: the DAAP extension. I just forgot it.
But after a while I did miss the functionality and searched in the menus of Banshee for it’s configuration dialog. I couldn’t find a thing, so I checked the preferences window. DAAP was indeed enabled, [...]
Banshee 1.4 now on my desktop 4 Comments
Banshee has always had a dedicated group of fans. In the discussions about Intrepid Ibex there were a lot of people proposing to replace Rhythmbox with Banshee. I had a quick look at Banshee at that time and wasn’t that impressed with what I saw.
Maybe I was too much used to Rhythmbox, or maybe my [...]
New theme, archive overview, shoutbox and more Comment
I’I wasn’t very happy with the previous theme. Although it was a very nice looking one, I prefer a calmer theme that allows you to place more widgets in the sidebar.
Today I finally made some time free to have a look at the blog and decided to switch to the Mini theme. I really like [...]
Why is Linux support often such a deception? 2 Comments
I just found an article at Digg.com about GMail finally working in the Google Chrome test shell: Google’s Chrome now works on Linux, crudely. This doesn’t mean the release of a Linux version is coming near, before the actual program works, a lot of work needs to be done.
The Windows version was released months ago
It [...]
I really am still working on Ubuntu Wanted Comment
Maybe you were wondering what happened to the Ubuntu Wanted project you heard me so often about the last few months. It didn’t stop, even though some thought it did.
The reason why you didn’t hear much of me was that school was consuming a lot of my time. Even though I did have a holiday, [...]
Idea #15442: Used hardware survey Comment
Lately I got more and more the feeling that hardware vendors are more and more extending their support for Linux.
However, it’s still far from perfect and not all companies have muche experience with interacting with the Linux community. Some companies still seem to be hestitant to be kind to Linux-users.
If we could show them that [...]
